Android 9 Pie OTA update officially released to Pixel devices today - Other devices are soon to get the update

Android 9 Pie OTA update officially released to Pixel devices today - Other devices are soon to get the update

Guess what the Android P is called…
“Android Pie”
Google has officially revealed the name of Android P to be called Android Pie

While I was running through my news feed on Google+, I came across this announcement by Andrea Gotschin (Moderator @ Android Beta Program) where he stated that the Android 9 Pie will be rolling out to the Pixel Phones today as part of the official release. He also added that devices which participated in the Beta program will automatically receive their upgrade via OTA update.

This is a quote from him (Andrea Gotschin):

“Today, Android 9 Pie will begin rolling out to Pixel phones as part of the official release. Devices that participated in the Beta program through our device partners will receive the update by the end of this fall! All currently enrolled Beta devices will receive an OTA update notification automatically. Once installed, you will no longer be able to downgrade to Oreo via OTA.

Note: Un-enrolling your device from the Beta program prior to receiving the public update will wipe your device. Once you install this public update, any time you un-enrol from the Beta your device will automatically be put back on the public track and your device will not get wiped.

You are likely already familiar with the new features, but please take a look at our consumer blog post (https://blog.google/products/android/introducing-android-9-pie/) for more information. The post also includes instructions for joining the beta to receive the Digital Wellbeing features (Dashboard, Wind Down, App Timer, etc.), which will officially launch on Pixel phones this fall, with Android One and other devices coming later this year."

Also, he added that if your device is still running the Beta program, you will automatically receive an OTA update to any future versions of Android Pie as soon as they are released

Interpreting the news, all other compatible devices that participated in the Beta program shall receive an OTA update by the end of this fall. Remember the previous news I published on this blog that Android P is set to be released on August 20 as seen on Evan Blass’ tweet, so this means that Android 9 Pie is just a few weeks away from other devices (apart from the Pixel Smartphones which is already getting the OTA update).

Android 9 Pie current supported devices:
The Android 9 Pie is currently available to 5 devices;
Google Pixel
Google Pixel XL
Google Pixel 2
Google Pixel 2 XL
Essential Phone

Now Let's discuss some of the top features Android 9 Pie is packed with
Now we have a new Android OS working with Artificial Intelligence (AI) for a smarter, simpler experience.

With Android 9 Pie installed on your Phone:
You should be able to navigate with ease; introducing the new system navigation featuring a single home button.
This will be very helpful especially when featured on a taller phone where the user may not find it comfortable getting things done on the phone with one hand.

There’s also an option in the settings menu where you can change back to the three button navigation if you do not appreciate the one button navigation.

Your smartphone will last for long on a single charge. With Android 9 Pie, your smartphone battery will be able to understand your pattern of app usage and will prevent irrelevant discharge.
Also, there will be an automatic adjustment on your phone’s brightness ( Adaptive brightness) depending on how bright or dark is the external environment, which also saves some percent of charge.

App Actions will become easy and awesome as it will predict the next move as you start an application or you connect a gadget. For example, connecting headphone will automatically prompt your smartphone to open the music playlist.

Plus many more…
Watch out for our next update on Android 9 Pie as we will unleash the full features of the new OS.

Google Pixel 3 and 3XL coming soon; Read it's trending rumour specs

Google Pixel 3 and 3XL coming soon; Read it's trending rumour specs

The Pixel 3 and 3XL is next of Google Pixel smartphone brand.
Soon enough the pixel 3 devices will be the onboard smartphone being discussed online.

The pixel 2 and Pixel 2XL was indeed successful as they were recognized as the best flagship smartphone offering high-quality top-notch cameras and easy access to Google Assistant.

Last year, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2XL were manufactured by HTC and LG, before Google acquired part of HTC hardware team.
But now, according to WinFuture.de, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL is manufactured by Google in partnership with Foxconn Subsidiary FIH Mobile.

Google is silent on disposing of the specs of its Pixel 3 flagship. However, there are speculating rumours about the Pixel 3 devices, some coming from trusted and reliable sources like Bloomberg, XDA Developers, OnLeaks...

According to Bloomberg, a notch and edge-to-edge design will be part of the larger Pixel 3XL only. Comparing the notch with the one in the iPhone X, the difference will be that the Pixel 3XL notch will be narrower and taller than the iPhone X notch. Just like every Pixel, the Pixel 3XL and its smaller model will feature stereo speakers. Both devices will feature only one camera lens on the rear while at the top front sits the dual cameras.

Over at XDA Dewvelopers, a forum user, meraz9000 shared some photos leaking the Pixel 3XL.
Justifying the shared photos, and if they are legit, the Pixel 3XL will feature dual front cameras, a notched display, and an all-glass back.

On closer examination of the leaked image, the back is craftily designed with one slab of glass with a matte finish portion on the lower part. This could also be a sign that the handset will possess wireless charging support.

The Pixel 3 will obviously own a 5.4-inch screen similar in size and body as the Pixel 2, with this probably it may come with smaller bezels. However, the Pixel 3 is said to have an 18:9 screen

Again, the Pixel 3XL dimensions are reportedly similar to that of the Pixel 2XL at 6.2 x 3 x 0.31 inches. Though the display may have a 19:9 aspect ratio.

These anticipating devices are rumoured to be built on Android's latest Operating System, the Android P. I bet this is true because Pixel devices are always the first to receive any OS update from Google.

In accordance to the new code of the beta Android P OS spotted on XDA Developer, describing a feature that could relate to wireless charging, predicts that the Pixel 3 and 3XL devices will likely be the first Pixel devices to feature wireless charging.

Performance:
The performance of the Pixel 3 variants is gonna be awesome with the Snapdragon 845 onboard. Probably Google is planning to integrate this chip with its next generation of phones. However, the chip will probably find its way to many high-end smartphone devices this year.

The size of RAM the Pixel 3 variants will have is what we have not confirmed. But rumours predict that the bigger Pixel 3XL should be maintained with 6GB RAM size. Probably the Pixel 3 may stick to 4GB RAM like its predecessors.

(Update): August 6, 2018
According to Gizbot, the Google Pixel 3XL is said to be packed by 4GB RAM
Release date and Availability
The release date has not been officially announced, however, if Google should maintain its history then probably the Pixel 3 devices could be unveiled on October just like the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2XL was released on October 19.

Wrap Up
The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL devices are to be launched soon, though the speculating rumour specs have not become official.
Everything you should know about these devices is yet to be confirmed by the company. However, most rumours and leaks usually become true when they have been announced.

Google is soon to fix the much long Pixel 2 Camera bug

Google is soon to fix the much long Pixel 2 Camera bug

Back view of the Google Pixel 2

A fix is coming to the Pixel 2 camera issue which has been active since launch
A question on Twitter last weekend probe Google to announce its acknowledgement of the "fatal camera error" bug affecting the Pixel 2 devices.

Users of the Pixel 2 device had a bug with the device's camera and the earliest complaint was online on November 2, two weeks after the device was released in October 19. The bug was noticed when users no longer have the good fun of taking pictures for memory keeping sake. This is as a result of the camera sometimes getting to crash when launched or trying to take a picture. Though, there have been some temporary fix which has been helping users get rid of it. Restoring factory settings and clearing the camera app cache in the setting has been two friendly short-term fix to the bug.

Pixel 2 users will be very pleased to hear that Google is currently working on a fix to the annoying camera bug. This news was captured from the reply by Google to one affected user who has found the temporary fix tips unhelpful.

However, let's be reminded that the Pixel 3 and 3XL devices are soon to be launch in next three months. Hopefully, we shall be having a successor of the Pixel 2 and 2XL flagships which we believe Google will be firing out more stunning and awesome features packed with the anticipating Pixel 3 and 3XL flagships.

It's Official: Google Pixel 2 & Pixel 2 XL Specs, Price and Release Date

It's Official: Google Pixel 2 & Pixel 2 XL Specs, Price and Release Date

Meet Google's new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL- Dual Pixel Cameras.

Google launched its Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones three days ago, 04 October as promised. The launch event actually was held in San Francisco where some attended the conference in person, while others streamed the event live on their various devices via available means.

For us who weren't opportuned to attend or stream the live event on our devices, Oshetech has discussed everything you need to know about the event, and of course, the main reason for the event; the launching of Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones.

As it was heard during the speculation of rumours regarding the event, Google did launch other make-life-easy products alongside the much anticipated Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones. The other products includes Google Home Mini and Max, Pixel Buds, Pixelbook, Google Clip, and more…

We shall be discussing the features of all these Google’s flagship products throughout this week on Oshetech.com, so please do come back to hear more from us. But this post is dedicated only to the new Pixel smartphones: Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.

GOOGLE PIXEL 2 & PIXEL 2 XL ANNOUNCED FEATURES
These two smartphones was announced during the launch, comparing their specifications, they are both identical though, there's a slight difference.

The rumoured specs were true as the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL were announced to run on Android 8.0 Oreo Operating System, feature Snapdragon 835 processors, 64GB or 128GB storage option, 4GB RAM for smooth performance.

DISPLAY & DESIGN
Like I mentioned earlier, the pixel 2 and pixel 2 XL are almost identical, with just a slight difference in the design differentiates one from the other.

The Pixel 2 is built with a 5-inch AMOLED screen display, having 1080p resolution (for a density of 441 PPI), Gorilla Glass.
Its body is built with metal and glass; featuring IP67 dust and water resistant.

The Pixel 2 XL is slightly bigger than the pixel 2, having 6-inch AMOLED 18:9 screen display with QHD+ alongside 2880 x 1440 resolution (for a density of 538 PPI).
The Pixel 2 XL has exactly the same body build up as the Pixel 2, that is to say both devices are built with metal and glass being water and dust resistant.

Both Pixel smartphones supports an Always-on display, which will continually listen to audio playing around you (even from radio), which empower it to display song information without following the normal process, all you need do is click on the song title from the Always-on display. With these Pixel phones, you'll experience an improved Google Assistant bringing more features especially to the pixel camera. Both handsets also supports “Active Edge”, meaning you can squeeze the sides of your phone to activate certain functions.

It's sad that the 3.5m headphone jack is no more. Instead you'll rely on the USB Type-C port for wired headphones, and you can not use wired headphones on the phone while it's charging. Though, at the front of these pixel smartphones are stereo speakers. On the back of these pixel smartphones is found a fingerprint sensor which Google says is the fastest on a smartphone.

ALSO IS THE PRESENCE OF GOOGLE SO-CALLED DUAL CAMERA
This actually got me amazed. Looking at the back of these Pixel smartphones are a single 12.2- megapixel camera with f/1.8 aperture built on them, but using the camera tells you it has the functionality of a dual camera.
This is what Google was referring to as dual camera. Google actually performed a dual camera trick with a single camera.

The single camera makes use of something Google is referring to as dual-pixel sensor which literally splits every pixel in two.
Unlike last year when Pixel was 1.55μm sized, this year’s pixel is a little bit smaller having 1.4μm. One benefit of this small pixel is that it allows for faster autofocus, and just like the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X, Google said it can offer “portrait mode” which include blurred background effect.
This works without a second camera, and that's because the pixel camera acts like the second lens which allows the camera shoot a second image ever-so-slightly offset from the previous shot.

With this feature, Google can establish depth map for the purpose of allowing it identify the foreground and background of a photo and make the subject more pronounced by blurring out every other thing found in the image. Google added that the portrait mode works also on objects. Also, this portrait mode feature is enabled on the 8-megapixel front-facing camera, despite the absence of split pixels in it.

Just like Apple's new iPhone 8 Plus, the Pixel 2 camera can shoot Motion Photo, it records a 3- seconds clip around each photo and bundle it into the file. The 12.2MP camera supports Optical Image Stabilization (OIS)

Augmented Reality Features
The camera  supports some augmented reality features like the AR stickers, this will enable you add emoji and 3D characters into photos and videos as you're capturing the event/scene.

These Pixel smartphones will be the first to feature Google lens. When this is activated, you'll be able to position the camera to different objects and let Google instinctively display information on them.
The pixel cameras are indeed packed with lots of amazing features.

BATTERY
The Pixel 2 is powered by a 2,700mAh sealed battery while the Pixel 2 XL is packed up with a 3,520mAh sealed battery.

It was said that these smartphones come with fast charge feature. According to a said statement by Google, “you can get 7 hours of charge in just 15 minutes”.

COLOUR AND PRICE
The Pixel 2 will be available in Black, White, and kinda blue colours.
The 64GB storage model price will go for $649/ £630, and $749/£730 for the 128GB storage model.

The Pixel 2 XL will be available in just Black and White colours.
Its price tag for the 64GB storage model is $849/£830 while the 128GB model will go for $949/£930.

RELEASE DATE
Both Pixel smartphones will be released on October 17. Whereas, pre-order has been ongoing since the launch of the devices on October 4.

Above is all you need to know about Google's latest flagship Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones; its specifications, price and release date.
